He also holds an Associate's degree in saxophone performance, and is particularly interested in vintage and unusual instruments.

He serves as an assistant and apprentice at Frobig Wind Repair, and is currently continuing his training at Red Wing. Chem Cleans are the most commonly needed and forgotten brass repair. "Cleaning" means the strategic use of chemicals (detergents, acids, alkalies) to achieve a clean metal surface free from oil & grease, lime & scale, and oxidation. The acid we use is a phosphoric mix which is extremely common in the field. We recommend a chem clean once a year. This can solve issues your instrument may be having, like slow valves and slides, and also prevent these issues from occurring in the future. It can also make your horn freer blowing. Our Chem Cleans involve a six step process: disassembly of all possible parts, detergent soak, removal of lime and scale, thorough rinsing, assembly and lubrication of all moving parts.
We recommend you bring your instrument into the shop once a year for servicing. However, this may not always be possible. Even if you do, you still may need minor adjustments due to an accident, weather, or general temperament of your instrument. In this case, we will simply provide whatever minor adjustments are needed. This type of job includes regulation and minor key issues. It does not include any replaced materials or soldering. We recommend you thoroughly play and test your instrument while here in the shop, and we will happily work with you until you are satisfied.
As you are playing your instrument, you may find that some things just don't feel right. Perhaps you are finding clicking noises, parts seem to be moving slower than they used to, or pads don't feel like they are closing well. There may be several things out of adjustment, and perhaps some materials have worn out. If your instrument has generally been maintained over the years, we can help it take the few steps needed to return the action, response and tone you remember. This type of job will include a light cleaning and general adjustments.
Clean, Oil, and Adjust, or COA, is recommended once a year. This is a thorough servicing which will provide results you will see, hear, and feel. We start this job by removing all keys and cleaning/polishing the body and parts. Old lubrication is removed and reapplied. Bent keys are straightened, binding keys are freed, springs are adjusted, and key action is tightened. All key position and heights are adjusted, and pads and other materials are replaced as needed. For metal instruments, dent removal and tenon fitting are included.
The passing of time and rigorous use will take a toll on any instrument. Leather, felt and cork deteriorate, moving parts loosen and wood dries out. After close examination, we will determine whether or not your instrument is in need of a repad. Our repads include disassembling, cleaning/polishing and oiling the instrument. All new pads, key corks/felts and tenon corks are installed. All key issues are addressed and key action will be tightened. Metal instruments include dent removal and tenon fitting. Wood instruments receive special attention to cracks, chips and checks. This job includes a 6 month warranty and it is strongly recommended that you come by the shop before this time period is up for free adjustments.
If you see chunks missing out of pads, or white dust surrounding pads, you instrument may have been infested with pad mites. Click here for more information.
There may be certain technical issues with your instrument that hinder your advancement and comfort. The way a part was manufactured may not match up with your body or playing style. We may be able to help your instrument better fit your needs. Some examples of customization we have performed are: relocating thumb rests and strap rings, bracing sax necks, fabrication of missing keys, installing custom springs in needed places for better response.

At Frobig Wind Repair, we do our best only to offer instruments that we can stand behind. Buying used from us offers significant savings over new instruments of equal quality. All of our instruments have been adjusted to play at the best. Our 30 day warranty ensures that you'll be satisfied.
The band instrument industry has changed immensely in the last 20 years. For a hundred years most wind instruments were made in Europe or American, by established manufacturers. Today, almost all student level instruments come from east Asia, in factories with little history in the business. We prefer to offer solid instruments from proven makers.

$475
Conn 10M Tenor Saxophone
The Conn "Naked Lady" series are American classics that enjoyed a long production run. Very few of them can compare to this one, condition-wise. From fairly late in the series, this example has straight tone holes and nickel-plated keys. Plating and lacquer are all original and gorgeous. This tenor came to us with a very recent overhaul; after a couple of adjustments, it's now in prime playing condition. Comes with a shaped SKB case.
$2000
Evette Tenor Saxophone
This Evette sax was made by Jupiter of Taiwan as an intermediate model in the Buffet-Crampon line. Buffet chose their partner well; this is a sturdy sax with tight keywork and a great sound. The modern keywork is tight and fast, the horn feels solid and reassuring in the hands, and the sound fills the room like a tenor's tone should. Condition couldn't get much closer to new. The modern, streamlined case completes a great package. Asian horns have come a long way in a short time, and this tenor is a great example.

Selmer USA 156 Baritone Saxophone
An American bari with a low A? Yes indeed! The Selmer USA gives the advantages of range down to A and recent production, plus all the things that make vintage horns so popular. The B-flat style bell flare adds to a gutsy sound that other low-A's can only envy. Condition is great and playability is top-notch. The original case protects like a bank vault.
$2300
Selmer USA 1244 Tenor Saxophone
The Selmer 1244 is the great Bundy II by a new name, and it offers the great sound, the easy and flexible response, and the bulletproof reliability of that long-running favorite. Of course, the Selmer USA is newer than any Bundy II, and this sax's condition is right in line with that. A very good case is included.
$900
Conn Bass Saxophone
This is still a work in progress, but we are excited to have it in the shop. It is currently receiving an overhaul.
Vito 7131 Alto Saxophone
This Vito alto sax is the identical twin to Yamaha's YAS 23; together they're the reigning champs of the student sax world. This sax is in great shape, literally set up to play better than new. The original case is in great shape and will protect the sax for years to come.
$600
Yamaha YAS 23 Alto Saxophone
The YAS 23 has been the best student alto sax on the market for years. Its tone, response, action and durability are second to none. This example is completely overhauled and plays better than new! Cosmetic condition isn't far from new, either. The only big difference between this horn and a new YAS 23 is the price.
Bundy II Alto Saxophone
The Bundy II alto sax is the sleeper of the student sax world. Its easy response, big tone and proven durability are legendary, but its absence from the new-horn market may have kept you from considering it. Well, this Bundy II looks great and plays better, and is likely to outlast most saxes being made today. Comes with its original case.
$400
King Zephyr Tenor Saxophone
Sax players realized a few years ago that King's Zephyr models of the postwar years are acoustically identical to the famous Super 20s. Not as flashy, maybe, but still a superb American sax with great action and a huge sound. Our Zephyr is from the late period of Cleveland production. Keys are nickel plated, and lacquer is sparse, but the sax is in rock-solid condition and plays like a dream. The original case shows some wear, but is undeniably cool.
$1200
King Zephyr Baritone Saxophone
King baritone saxes can always be counted on to lay a solid bottom under any reed section. This Zephyr is no exception. The finish is a relacquer with some additions to the factory engraving. The neck is...unique. Take advantage of these factors to pick up a great-honking bari for a fantastic price. A servicable case is included.

Grand Rapids Cornet
A product of the J.W. York factory, this cornet reminds us of the craftsmanship of an earlier time. Lots of the original silver plate is intact, and the horn plays very nicely. This is what cornets were meant to sound like!
$180
Martin Superlative Cornet
The name says it all! This premium model from Martin's early days was built to the highest standard, and brings that quality with it into the 21st century. Mellow, but powerful tone and great valves make it all you could ask for in a vintage cornet. Silver plate still dazzles. Bix Beiderbecke played this model--that's a hard endorsement to beat!
